The modern building materials market offers a large number of chimneys. The fire safety of the whole house depends on the quality of the pipe and the correctness of its choice. A chimney made of sandwich steel meets this basic criterion in the best way. The stainless steel chimney has various sizes, which simplifies the process of selecting the necessary design.

Basic requirements for outlet pipes
The conditions for using the chimney determine its design. Channel operation characteristics should fully comply with SNiP. Some melted documents are as follows:
- Each heat appliance must have a separate chimney;
- the thickness of the metal pipe should not be less than half a millimeter;
- in the manufacture it is necessary to use steel with increased resistance to corrosion;
- the number of turns of the smoke channels - no more than three;
- pipe height - not less than 5 meters.
Suitable chimney height provides sufficient traction and efficient operation.
Note! During installation, it is necessary to use sealants with an operating temperature of at least 1 thousand degrees.
A chimney inside the wall is allowed if it is made of non-combustible material. Checking its operation is performed by a qualified specialist at least 2 times during the entire heating period. Exhaust emissions from several devices are allowed. In this case, the cross section of the chimney should be determined, given their simultaneous operation. When using modular systems, it is forbidden to melt with firewood that exceeds the size of the furnace, as well as with flammable liquids, drying objects on the chimney elements, and removing soot by burning.
Types of chimneys made of steel
There are many types of materials for the construction of a flue system. The division of pipes is carried out according to their purpose and functionality. There are such chimneys made of steel:
- single-walled;
- coaxial;
- a sandwich.
A single-walled pipe is intended for temporary use as a chimney when connecting gas boilers or furnaces, repair work (on a specific part of the canal), for placement in brick chimneys.
The coaxial pipe is designed so that there is a simultaneous possibility of exhausting combustion products and forcing fresh air to support the source. It consists of an inner and outer shell. The outflow of smoke is carried out on the first of them, and the flow of air between the sections. Similar chimney pipes set if oxygen is needed for the boiler to function.
Double-walled sandwich structures made of stainless steel suit for the most efficient operation of the smoke channel.
Channel Sandwich Feature
A chimney-type chimney is a structure consisting of three layers - an inner, outer pipe and thermal insulation between them. This explains the name of these channels.
Note! The inner pipe must be made of stainless steel.
The outer part can be made of other material, for example, galvanized steel, brass, polyester. The thickness of the insulation and the dimensions of the product determine the temperature regime at which the chimney will operate.
Sandwich chimney always has a factory certificate with a description of all its characteristics (categories of boilers for connection, type of fuel, warranty period, etc.). The quality of the stainless steel of which the channel is made affects the resistance to high temperatures and the durability of the product. For the production of steel used grades AISI 310 and 304. It is possible to use budget options - AISI 409 and 439. The outer circuit is usually made of AISI 430.
For solid fuel boilers, chimneys are selected in which the seams are connected by laser welding. For systems using gas fuel, the riding method for these purposes is permissible.
Pluses of double-walled pipes
The advantages of sandwich structures include the absence of condensate, ease of installation, the highest degree of fire safety, resistance to aggressive environments and compactness. Such chimneys are sold in parts with a length of each segment of not more than a meter. The constructed furnace construction does not need to be created, and work can be performed in any season. Modularity allows you to arrange chimneys of the required configurations. The entire furnace chimney system is environmentally friendly and quiet during traction.
Manufacture stainless steel channels involves the use of high-quality metal, in which titanium impurities can sometimes be added to increase strength. Elements with walls up to 1 mm are not deformed even at 650 degrees. Of the shortcomings, the high cost of products can be distinguished. From a stainless steel sandwich pipe can be used for solid fuel and gas boilers, fireplaces, stoves, etc.
Steel chimney dimensions
The stainless pipe and its dimensions are selected depending on the place of use of the furnace heating. The main temperature load is borne by the inner part of the channel, so it is important to consider its diameter.
Note! The more powerful the heating device is, the larger the cross-section of the pipe is required.
The dimensions of the equipment are regulated by SNiP, and the diameter is mainly indicated in the data sheet of the device, for example, 200/260, 150/210 or 120/180 mm. The first and second digits are the internal and external section, respectively. The thicker the stainless steel is, the longer the stove heating system will last. When buying a sandwich pipe, it is necessary to take into account the diameter of the boiler outlet pipe. The required chimney indicator should be no less than it. It is assumed that the pipe will be worn for output.
The diameter of the inside of the chimney stainless steel sandwich can be 110, 115, 120, 150, 200 and up to 300 millimeters inclusive. Products are available meter and half meter length. The inner pipe is made of steel with a wall of 0.5 and 1 mm. The outer diameter of the channel sandwich reaches 200-430 mm, and the thickness of the inner insulation layer is 4-6 cm.
Pipe Sandwich Connectors
The necessary connecting elements having a suitable diameter (for example, 200, 150, 120 mm) are selected for the sandwich pipe for chimneys from stainless steel:
- elbow - allows you to change the direction of the chimney, the composition includes several parts that are welded at an angle;
- chimney-convector - necessary for the removal of combustion products;
- audit - the main purpose is to clean the chimney from soot accumulation;
- tee - serves to drain condensate and gases;
- kagla - used to regulate traction;
- adapter - necessary for connecting various elements;
- thermo weather vane - serves to protect the chimney from blowing wind and precipitation;
- rosetta - an auxiliary element designed for decoration;
- thermo cone - necessary to protect the structure from atmospheric precipitation;
- fungus - designed for the top of the chimney and consists of steel (galvanized).
In addition, thanks to the stainless steel sandwich, the chimney can be supplemented with all kinds of decorative elements.
Use of double-walled chimneys
Items chimney sandwich are connected according to a zig-corrugation system or a bell-shaped scheme. Such channels can be both freestanding and internal. Due to its convenient design and sufficiently high operational characteristics, sandwich chimneys are widely used in combination with various bath and heating equipment.
Note! Inside the buildings, as a rule, single-walled stainless steel pipes are installed, and when passing through the attic or outside the structure, double-walled pipes with insulation.
Installation of the design of the chimney can be carried out by smoke or by condensate. In the first option, the channels are collected to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the house. This is achieved by installing tees. In the second option, it is necessary that the condensate, which appeared from the temperature difference, can drain down the pipe.
It will be correct to install the inside of the pipe in condensate, and the outside in smoke.
Features of the assembly of the external channel
The assembly of the channel from stainless steel must be performed in a certain sequence. The first is the horizontal section from the boiler. A steel sandwich pipe is connected to the chimney pipe using prefabricated fittings. They are attached with clamps and crimped well. Somewhere in the middle of the length of the horizontal section, you need to insert a tee for revision. The subsequent steel pipe is connected by putting on the previous one.
Changing the sequence is strictly prohibited, since otherwise the products of combustion will enter the room. The horizontal part of the structure from the boiler is reduced by 30-50 mm. This is to prevent condensation from entering the device. The place where a sandwich from a stainless steel chimney passes through the wall is insulated with non-combustible materials.
After the chimney has entered the street from the wall, a tee is immediately placed to collect condensate and the channel turns upward. A steel sandwich pipe is mounted on the wall by attaching to a supporting structure, which is mounted by fasteners (anchors, dowels).
The device of the internal chimney
The indoor installation of a chimney sandwich pipe is similar to the outdoor assembly.
During installation work, special attention must be paid to the appropriate size of the stainless steel chimney sandwich, the careful sealing of the docking places and the passage of the channel through the roof. In some cases, the arrangement of the passage may require a change in the design of the roof lathing. The bars that create the obstacle are cut out and transferred to another place.
Note! Disturbing rafters and beams should not be disturbed, and the channel exit point from stainless steel is shifted.
This feature is characteristic for the installation of the chimney in the finished building. From the bottom to the place of passage, a pipe is substituted, and from above a pipe element is put on it, fixed to the roof covering with self-tapping screws.The surface of the abutment to the roof is treated with mastic. This special element is a support for putting on the outer pipe. The perimeter design is crowned with a stainless steel skirt. The final stage of assembly is installation of the exhaust pipe head. At the end of the work, traction is checked.
Important points for outdoor installation
When performing outdoor assembly and the passage of the channel from steel through the wall of wood, the chimney is additionally wrapped with a layer of asbestos.
For clay, concrete and brick walls, lumen insulation with mounting foam designed for outdoor use is sufficient.It is unacceptable to connect a stainless steel pipe sandwich at the place of their passage through the wall. If the joint accidentally hits this point, then the channel should be cut to the aisle, and then the whole part of the pipe should be closed into the wall.
The height of the chimney assembly above the roof is at least half a meter. The pipe is fixed every 200 cm, however, in order to prevent sagging and bending, you can fix it more often. The elevation of the chimney from a stainless steel sandwich above the roof depends on its proximity to the ridge. If the height is more than 200 cm, then you should additionally fix the pipe to the roof with a metal cable. Such a solution will give the structure strength.
Stainless steel sandwich chimneys are the most optimal solution, since they can be installed in houses made of any materials. They are characterized by a high degree of reliability.
